I have checked the available settings but cannot see that there is any setting determining automatic mode switch, other than the "Always/never ask me before switching" (which is set to always). The problem can be identified depending on what is on the screen when it is frozen or not loading. When you see the Windows logo on your Surface’s screen, release your finger from the button. Press the power button for around 20 seconds. The next option is a forced shutdown of the entire system device. I have looked at the tutorial on tablet mode in this forum, but it says nothing about automatic switching. The Microsoft Surface 2 will turn on but Windows will not load properly or get stuck while loading. Release the power button, then press it as you usually would when you turn on your device. I have not changed any settings related to this, not deliberately at least.
